Inspiration From Words?

songwritingWoah, have the days gotten away from me. I’ve been so exhausted, sore and busy. The past week was a very eventful one. On Wednesday I turned 26 and I thank all of your for the birthday wishes, and Shellz for the gift (what a great song lyrics book!).

It felt good, knowing that I treat my birthday like any other day. What did I do? I came home and slept. When you think about it, it’s kind of pathetic, but I guess I’m not the party type and what can you really do during hard times? Still, I’m excited about the new guitar I’ll be getting sometime this week. I’m going to be getting an Epiphone semi acoustic. Apparently it’s a Gretsch, we’ll see.

Today I won’t do much lyric writing, as ’m going to the battle of the bands, sponsored by Honda. That’s supposed to be really fun. A lot of people from my work are going, and other people around town. I’ve been a part of the high school battle of the bands in my younger years, though I’ve never seen the best of the best from the colleges so it should be tons of fun (which I oh so desperately need). I’ll try to take pictures and tell you guys all about it.

I really should be asleep right now. Right now, as I’m writing this it’s 5:39 a.m. I woke up around 2:00 a.m. and I just could not go back. My sleeping schedule is so off I don’t know what to do with myself. Either way, I’m doing a little better in my lyrics writing and to improve my style I’m taking an advanced course where we’re reading plays by Shakespeare.

If you haven’t read any of his work and want to become a top writer,  I really recommend you read Shakespeare, it’s gorgeous! It would be hard to understand at first, but once you’re able to recognize the puns and understand how the words should be read, it’s interesting, fun, and you’ll learn a lot. I’m in no way an actor but it’s still cool to try to be the character you’re reading, and the inspiration you’ll get (at least I got that) is amazing.  It makes the whole experience worthwhile.

To finish this off, I want to share some more “art.” I was reading on of my online friends’ Webitect articles on typography (how to use of fonts the best). It was a really good article that may be useful if you think about editing your lyrics. After reading the article I’d gotten pretty inspired and also this will help me become a good lyrics writer. Talk about being bored… just thought I’d share it with you all.

What type of things usually inspire you?
